Blender

The Blender add-on imports a LibreTerrain build as centred, metre-scaled meshes, with masks as packed images and point attributes.

Install

  1. From the LibreTerrain repository root, run:
    sh
    python3 import-helpers/blender/package.py
    This creates import-helpers/.work/libreterrain-blender.zip.
  2. In Blender, open Edit → Preferences → Add-ons, choose Install from Disk in its menu, select the ZIP, and enable LibreTerrain build importer. (It's a legacy add-on, not an Extensions package.)

Import

Choose File → Import → LibreTerrain build (build.json) and pick the exported manifest.

  • Each height output becomes one mesh in a LibreTerrain build collection. EXR is preferred when both formats exist.
  • Coordinates: X = column × cell_x − width/2, Y = depth/2 − row × cell_y, Z = height_m.
  • Your scene's unit scale is respected through object scale. Increase viewport clipping for large worlds.
  • Masks are packed Non-Color images, available in the LT mask textures material (unconnected, so you choose the terrain material) and as named attributes (LT ["node", "port"]) for Geometry Nodes.
  • The import is one undo step. Re-running it imports a new collection.

Vegetation

Each species becomes one mesh object with a vertex per point and rotation and scale attributes. Its Geometry Nodes Instance on Points modifier references a placeholder cone through an Object Info node. Point that at your own species object (nominal size at scale 1).

Tested with Blender 5.2.0 LTS. The add-on declares Blender 4.2 as its minimum.
