Trees
Vegetationvegetation.treesA tree population: where trees grow (Density) and one point per tree (Points), from slope, altitude, water and earlier populations (Occupied). Dead zones marks scree and slide paths. Occupied is the ground taken (all of it from a density of 0.5) added to the Occupied input, for chaining populations.

Output with default settings, rendered by LibreTerrain.

Settings
| Setting | Default | Range / options | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Species | tree | Name written with each point in exported point files (e.g. scots_pine), so import scripts can pick the matching mesh. | |
| Coverage Mask port | 0.8 | 0 to 1 | Density where conditions are ideal. 1 packs plants as closely as Spacing allows. |
| Health | 0.8 | 0 to 1 | How well the plants cope with poor ground. Lower health leaves only the best spots covered. |
| Water preference | 0.2 | -1 to 1 | Above 0 the plants seek water, below 0 they avoid it. Water is the Water input (e.g. a Wetness mask), or valleys if it isn't connected. |
| Spread | 20 m | 0 to 2,000 m | How far plants spread beyond the ground that suits them, in metres. |
| Patches | 0.4 | 0 to 1 | Groups plants into clumps and clearings. 0 = even cover. |
| Patch size | 150 m | 5 to 20,000 m | Typical size of clumps and clearings, in metres. |
| Randomness | 0.3 | 0 to 1 | Fine, random thinning of the cover. |
| Slope min | 0 ° | 0 to 90 ° | Plants grow on slopes between Slope min and max. |
| Slope max | 35 ° | 0 to 90 ° | |
| Slope falloff | 6 ° | 0 to 45 ° | How gradually cover fades outside the slope range. |
| Altitude min | -10,000 m | -10,000 to 20,000 m | Plants grow between Altitude min and max, in metres. |
| Altitude max | 1,400 m | -10,000 to 20,000 m | |
| Altitude falloff | 100 m | 0 to 5,000 m | How gradually cover fades outside the altitude range (the tree line). |
| Avoid peaks | 0.4 | 0 to 1 | Thins cover on exposed peaks and ridge crests. |
| Snow tolerance | 0.2 | 0 to 1 | How much snow (Snow input) the plants survive. 0 = none. |
| Occupied | Avoid | Avoid, Intermingle, Grow near | How this population treats ground taken by earlier ones (Occupied input): keep out, share it thinly, or cluster around its edges. |
| Occupied strength | 1 | 0 to 1 | |
| Dead zones | 0.5 | 0 to 1 | Clears scree slopes, their run-outs and snow-slide paths. Also an output, for placing rocks. |
| Dead zone slope | 38 ° | 0 to 90 ° | Slopes steeper than this become dead zones. |
| Spacing | 7 m | 0.25 to 1,000 m | Minimum distance between two points, in metres. |
| Rotation min | 0 ° | 0 to 360 ° | Each point turns by a random angle between Rotation min and max. |
| Rotation max | 360 ° | 0 to 360 ° | |
| Scale min | 0.8 | 0.01 to 100 | Each point gets a random scale between Scale min and max (1 = the mesh as modelled). |
| Scale max | 1.2 | 0.01 to 100 | |
| Seed | 0 | 0 to 999,999 | Change for a different variation. |
Mask ports
Settings marked Mask port can be driven by a mask. Click the setting's Mask port button and connect a mask to the new green input: black scales the value to 0, white keeps the value you set.
