Godot

The Godot editor plugin turns a LibreTerrain build into a saved terrain scene with float textures and a selectable mask preview.

Install

  1. Copy import-helpers/godot/addons/libreterrain_import/ into your project's addons/ folder.
  2. Enable LibreTerrain build importer in Project → Project Settings → Plugins.

Import

Choose Project → Tools → Import LibreTerrain build…. Select the external build.json, then a destination scene inside your project. Prefer .scn (binary) for large terrains.

  • The scene contains one MeshInstance3D per heightfield at full resolution. One unit is one metre.
  • X is centred on ±width/2, Y is elevation, and the first image row is the −Z edge.
  • Select the root node to find Height Textures and Masks, keyed by ["node","port"]. Paste a mask's key into Preview Mask to see it on the terrain.
  • Keep the add-on's terrain_build.gd and terrain.gdshader with scenes that use them.

EXR is preferred. The plugin also decodes 16-bit PNG losslessly, so export both if you also target Unreal.

There is no collision, automatic reimport, LOD or tiling. Add these with your game's own terrain and physics approach.

Vegetation

Point outputs create one MultiMeshInstance3D per species. Replace its placeholder cone mesh with your species mesh at nominal size.

Tested headless with Godot 4.7.2 and 4.6.2. See the tutorial From LibreTerrain to Godot.
