Installation

Builds for Windows, macOS and Linux are attached to each release on the Releases page, or use the Download page. Pick the installer or portable download for your system. Nothing else needs installing.

Windows

Download	Notes
LibreTerrain-<version>-windows-x86_64-setup.exe	Installs into Program Files with Start menu (and optional desktop) shortcuts. Uninstall from Settings → Apps.
LibreTerrain-<version>-windows-x86_64-portable.zip	No install: unzip anywhere, even a USB stick, and run LibreTerrain.exe. Keep terrain_godot.dll next to the .exe.

Windows 10 and 11 (x86_64) are supported.

Unsigned builds

If the release notes say the build isn't signed, SmartScreen may warn you. Choose More info → Run anyway.

macOS

Download LibreTerrain-<version>-macos-universal.zip. It runs on macOS 11+ on both Apple Silicon and Intel.

If the release notes say it isn't notarised, right-click LibreTerrain.app → Open the first time, or run:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine LibreTerrain.app

Linux

Debian / Ubuntu

The .deb and .rpm add a menu entry and a libreterrain command. There is also a portable LibreTerrain-<version>-linux-x86_64.zip: keep libterrain_godot.so next to LibreTerrain.x86_64.

Linux builds need glibc 2.35 or newer and Vulkan drivers (Mesa on most systems).

Updates

LibreTerrain checks for a new release when it starts and shows an Update button in the status bar when one is out. Help → Check for Updates… checks at any time, and Settings → Check for Updates at Startup turns the automatic check off.

• Installed copies (the Windows installer, .deb, .rpm and AppImage) download and install the update after verifying its checksum.
• Portable, Flatpak and macOS copies open the download page.

Release candidates (such as 2026.1.0-rc1) are published as pre-releases and are never offered as updates.

Hardware

Heavy nodes run on the GPU when one is available, with a full CPU fallback for older hardware.
